About Gene Wolfenbarger
Gene Wolfenbarger is the Senior Pastor at The Gathering. He was raised in Sevierville during his teenage years, and then left for Texas to attend college. He is a graduate of Criswell Bible College in Dallas, Texas. After twelve years of evangelism, Gene was hosting a student conference in Kansas City. At the conference God convicted Gene that he was to return to his home in the Smoky Mountains to begin a non-denominational Purpose Driven Church. Two days later, on November 18, 1999, God very clearly spoke to him through His Word and revealed that the name of the church in Sevierville was to be called The Gathering. The confirmation came through the scripture found in Ezekiel 28:25. "This is what the Sovereign Lord says: The people of Israel will again live in their own land, the land I gave my servant Jacob. For I will gather them from the distant lands where I have scattered them. I will reveal to the nations of the world my holiness among my people."
Gene and Karen celebrated twenty-three years of marriage in 2008. They have two sons, Corey and Seth.
